G of the patient a big proliferative lesion with a massive bone loss in the form of a huge radioluscency is seen on the left side of the mandible..ultimately leading us to a questionable diagnosis..indicating carcinoma(CA)..which needs confirmation.The site of the extra-oral draingae is cleaned with betadine solution n a dressing is given in the end and antibiotics and analgesics are prescribed.The patient and his wife is informed abt the suspected diagnosis of carcinoma, its treatment cost, abt the biopsy and the hospitals which provide the treatment.the patient takes it well, but the wife stays still fer a moment n den begins to cry,saying that how she,her family and kids cannot survive without her husband.I tried to console her, showing the brighter side of the situation and even t
elling her abt the recent leaping advances in medicine and sugery has made mostly every disease and defect curable..but then suddenly she asked me a question and I was taken aback..she asked me if the treatment could be free??..n how she cannot afford it,i was speechless.Even after ol da fascinating and leaping advances in sugery and medicine..we are cost bound..n i wondered if even after ol dese advances and newer treatment modalities, are we really potent enough to actually make dem useful enough fer the common people in a developing country like India??..ultimately we had to refer the patient to other hospital fer comparing the prices fer the treatment..its not jst a story of one patient..so many of such patients are still waiting to get treated..some die untreated..and this is the irony of today's so called "MEDICAL ADVANCES", which is miles away from the common people..especially in my country uptil now..its still lacking in many ways..and believe me its painful wen u knw how to treat da patient and u cannot..dats wat i called "THE BLIND SIDE OF THE MEDICAL PRACTICE"!!i am sure we ol medical professionals can relate to it in some way..and faced atleast one such incident where u feel helpless..but i hope i was able to throw some light on this un-noticed and ignored side of our practice..m sure we can overcome it by our joint sincere efforts ..

itz really painful n killin frm inside wen u hear bout such cases....i wish dat medical science along wid finding cure 4 the diseases whose cure has not been possible yet....look down 2 dese kind of cases that can b cured n save sumbdyz life...money iz not bigger then a human lyfe...letz cum forward n raise humanity...do your bit!!!

Well i understand what u wanna say.. you should not be sad because this the way system works as i would rather called it as a bussiness( like you only earn when someone is in a problem ), even in the deveoped countries like for example U.K, U.S the healthcare system is not good, i hope obama's new health reforms could help the nation.
ReplyDeleteI think that Indian system had done a great job by opening free govenment hospitals and took some good schemes for poor people but the problem are we doctors who do illegal practices, break all laws and write more drugs to patient and increse the monetry pressure on them and in the end all are filling their pockets and poor people are suffering.
well another point i would like to make a note that the people shoud be so much educated that if they want a free treatment they should go to some govenmnet hospital , why they are bargaining to young doctors and making them underpressure that they start writing blogs and alll...:))

thanx a ton Dr. Akkhil for your wise comments..n ya i agree with u..but not completely..but yet again u r jst seein one side of it.its like a coin havin 2 sides..i dun deny ur point but neither my point can be denied..in our country where such free govenment hospitals r also there which is really admirable but corruption nullifies everyhing sir..dat cannot be denied and dat is the other side.."the blind side" .." the hidden side "..n ya i agree with ur second point aswell but i feel we as young doctors should indulge ourselves in some free community services n programmes..n associate ourselves wid some genuine NGO's..a lott can b done by young doctors like us..we gain experience n da satisfaction beyond anyhtin else n patients gain free treatment..dats da least we can do..a lot more..spreading awareness thru blogs..but yet again its not madatory..its optional..dose who like it can do it..but dis is how we ol medical profesionals can work together for the benefit of patients..n u r rite today everythin is jst buisness..but we should remember dat we r doctors n not buisnessmen..
